From The Desk Of The Executive Director
We can all sense the change in the season… a crispness in the air, and the hues of the changing leaves remind me of the majesty of a king’s robe. The fall chrysanthemums heighten the excitement with the magnificent golds, purples, and crimsons peering out from every corner. Pumpkins have ripened in the field, ready to be picked by excited children and become scary jack-o-lanterns for trick or treat!
The first brisk chill in the air always sends my spirits soaring and quickens my step. I truly love the fall! It is the harbinger of all of the excitement of the upcoming season!
While children may look forward to Halloween with the ghosts, goblins, and candy, grown-ups have something to look forward to as well: Oktoberfest! We celebrate the cooler weather with hearty autumn feasts.
With scarecrows of various lineage welcoming the season, we invite you to join us in a month of celebration!
News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen
We’re celebrating Oktoberfest this month! The resident theme meal features German style food, music, and decorations. The event will be held on October 19th at the dinner hour. Our Bakers Club has an Oktoberfest theme as well.
Look for menu changes this month, as we transition to fall and winter favorites.
As the weather cools, it’s time to start thinking pie! We’re gearing up for our annual pie sale, which runs from November through January 1st. It’s one of the tastiest DevonHouse traditions: we’ll have a great assortment of pies that we bake and box for you on the day you choose. Let us take care of your holiday dessert! We’ll have signs posted with details about ordering once we turn the calendar page into November.

Of course, no October at DevonHouse would be complete without our annual Trick-Or-Treat Night. Neighborhood kids will visit us in the living room on Friday, October 27th. Everyone is welcome to join us, and we’ll provide the candy. Feel free to dress up in costume!
At the Ladies Tea this month, we’re celebrating a very special four-legged furry boy’s 1st birthday. Come out and see what it’s all about.
Finally, Elvis will be in the building to rock out the month on October 27th. It’s treat, not a trick!
