From The Desk Of The Executive Director
Welcome to 2018!
Another year begins, a fresh, clean slate on which we etch many good intentions and resolutions for the coming months. With lofty intentions and idealistic goals, we are filled with optimism for the future. My hope this year is that we will all find solutions not only for our meeting personal challenges, but for finding peace in the world and bringing home our troops that are serving on foreign soil.
In January, we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by offering a day dedicated to service. On the third Monday of the month, many of us participate in the MLK National Day of Service, in which Americans offer their hard work and strong backs to make others’ lives better.
On the home front, here at DevonHouse we are looking forward to many new and innovative ideas in 2018, fostered by our staff, to enrich the lives of each of our residents and to encourage their unique contributions to making our community even stronger.
We look forward to seeing more of our residents’ families and friends in 2018. I encourage you to continue to be part of the rich “fabric” of DevonHouse. I invite you to get to know our staff — we’re all on the same team to enrich the lives of your loved ones.
Here’s to a great start to 2018!
News from Chef Jim’s Kitchen
We’re celebrating the new year all month! The month and the year begin with a special New Year’s Day meal of pork and sauerkraut. This Pennsylvanian Dutch tradition is said to give you good luck for the entire year.
Later in the month, we’re celebrating the Chinese New Year at our monthly theme meal on the 18th. We will feature a Chinese food menu along with themed decorations, and of course, fortune cookies for everyone. See what good fortune 2018 has in store for you!
Thanks to everyone who participated in our annual pie sale. While the pie sale is officially over, please come see me if you find yourself in need of a pie!

News from Activities
Thanks so much to everyone who either attended or performed during our many holiday events in December. You made our holidays extra-special!
Now that the new year is upon us, we are hosting a “New Year, New You” 21-day exercise challenge. During the month of January, join us Monday through Saturday at 10:00 a.m. sharp in the living room for our daily half-hour exercise program. At the end of the month, residents with the highest attendance will receive a prize – in addition to the prize of good health!
Ladies, please also be sure to join us on January 11th for an indulgent afternoon of beauty and skin care with Mary Kay.
Happy new year!
